BLOOD FOR BLOOD:
THE TERRESTRIALITY OF BLOOD ATONEMENT

§ The Role of Blood Atonement in Salvation’s Terrestrial Adjudication

98. God executes the first act of substitutionary blood atonement by slaying animals to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve following the universal enmity decree made at Eden (Gen. 3:15→21). (That blood atonement is the only God-ordained means for effecting reconciliation and that this original act of atonement does not cover the serpent indicates that the saving plan of reconciliation does not extend subterrestrially to satan or any netherworld spirit beings for whom hell was prepared (Mt. 25:41). Therefore reconciliation can never be universal, and neither hell nor the Lake of Fire are places in which terrestrial blood atonement can be applied.) 

99. The image of God found in terrestrial human blood (Gen. 9:6) is the basis for all judicial accounting of man (Gen. 9:5) while blood atonement is reserved for the purging of sin from the soul (life) found in the living human bloodstream—blood for blood (Gen. 9:3; Lev. 17:11; Ezk 18:20; Heb. 9:18-28;12:24; I Pt. 1:2;18-19; I Jn. 1:7,9). (All blood is shed on earth for blood on earth. In hell and the Lake of Fire, no human blood exists to be purged because it is left in the ground (Gen. 4:10; Ps. 30:9) nor therefore can Christ’s saving Blood be further applied. If it is argued that the Blood of Christ was already effectually applied to the whole world during earthly life, then there is no basis for any souls to have been damned to the netherworld. They were already “saved.” Thus by any reckoning, effectual salvation upon the blood by the blood is not available in the netherworld.)

• Blood atonement is the only means of reconciliation and is available only to mankind, not fallen spirits (Heb. 9:22→ Heb. 2:14, 16; Ps. 9:12). (Universal reconciliation with fallen spirit beings is therefore impossible, and therefore universal reconciliation is impossible and the Universalist interpretation of the Ac. 3:21 “restoration of all things” is false.)

• All redemption by the Blood is effectively accomplished only upon the living human gene pool on earth (Rev. 5:9-10) and all blood atonement is demonstrably executed and applied throughout scripture in the land of the living and/or in heaven (Heb. 9:12,23) preventatively of death (Heb. 11:28). (No evidence exists of blood atonement applied or redemption drawn from within hell or the Lake of Fire where no living gene pool any longer exists.)

100. The reconciliation issues forth from only one act of atonement accomplished for all time yielding not only salvation for the sanctified (Heb. 9:28→ 10:12,14; 13:12), but parallel anti-reconciliatory vanquishing annihilation of enemies (Heb. 10:13→Lk. 20:42-43(→19:27); Ac. 2:34 →I Cor. 15:24-27). (An anti-reconciliatory purpose directly resultant from the only act of reconciliation available to man disproves the possibility of universal reconciliation.)

101. The power of the one reconciling atonement is limited to mortal application one time, past further violation of which no re-reconciliation / re-atonement is possible and for which consuming fiery judgment under vengeance without mercy is the sole and opposite terminal expectation (Heb. 10:26-31; 12:17). ((Please see further Point 105 below and the Epilogue.) This single passage from all of scripture summarily disproves the possibility of universal reconciliation.)

102. The redemptive reconciling atonement of the Lamb of God enables avoidance of and protection amidst His scrolling end time judgments including the final judgment bar, but does not preempt the judgments or the universal adjudicating bar, establishing the definition and delimited scope of atoning salvation in terms of that bar (Rev. 5:9-10→6:15-17→7:3,9-17→9:4→11:17-18→12:10-11→ 13:7-8→14:1-5→7→10-11,19→15:7-17:1→18:8→19:1-3→7→11,13-15→20-21→20:11-15). (No evidence exists for a definition or application of the atonement beyond or apart from reference to the one conclusive universal adjudicating bar. Thus there is no foundation for asserting application of the atonement past that bar.)

• The blood of the Passover Lamb was only applied preventatively of judgment, was made available only for Israel while the Egyptians were targeted for the death judgment with no return to life; and this pattern defined the meaning of salvation for thousands of years unto the New Covenant without change. (For Universalism to be true, total reconciliation would have had to have been patterned in the original Passover, wherein 1) the blood could still be applied after the judgment, 2) the blood would have to have been available equally to Israel and the Egyptians, 3) the Egyptians could not have been specifically targeted for death, and 4) the dead among all the Egyptian firstborn and their armies would have all had an expectation of coming back to life to worship the God of Israel. Thus the Passover pattern on which New Covenant salvation is built, by itself, disproves the Universalist “plan of salvation.”)
  
  
  
• [The Passover atonement was unable to save the wilderness rebels from destruction under judgment, and their destruction was as final as it was for the Egyptians for whom there was no atonement (Jude 5). (Because there was no other atonement, and because the wilderness rebels and the Passover are set up as a type for understanding New Testament atonement (I Cor. 10:1-11), it means there is no further effectuality of or other atonement for anyone who perishes after having been set apart provisionally by the blood of Christ. If the blood could not stop rebellion on earth, it cannot cure it in hell and the Lake of Fire.)]
  
  
  
•  The blood of Christ is sprinkled upon the individual conscience for cleansing from dead works committed under terrestrial covenantal word/bond (Heb. 9:13-15). (All such terrestrial works are fully adjudicated at the final Judgment prior to the Lake of Fire and there are no further works to commit, much less adjudicate, by which the blood of Christ could be applied to any damned conscience in the Lake of Fire. Therefore the cleansing agency of the blood of Christ has no application in the netherworld.)
  
  
  
• The redemption is for the called who are to receive one age-enduring inheritance described elsewhere as “imperishable” which cannot “fade away” (Heb. 9:15→I Pt. 1:4), on behalf of whose heirship angels are specifically ordained to minister (Heb. 1:14). (Thus age-enduring life to be inherited the one time is immortal life not subject to time defined by ages and cannot and will not be replaced by some other later timeless “eternal” life. Thus there is no end to age-enduring damnation. (See PART 6 –TIME THROUGHOUT THE COSMOLOGICAL DOMAINS.) Further, all biblical record of angelic ministry past and future occurs only between heaven and earth in consort with the power of prayer (e.g., Dan 9:21-23; 10:10-12) as delimited to between heaven and earth by the Lord’s Prayer (Please review PART 2 § Cosmological Domains and Divided Destiny, Point 7 subpoint). No angelic ministry occurs in hell or the Lake of Fire. Therefore there are no “heirs of salvation” unto immortal life in hell or the Lake of Fire.)
  
  
  
•  Christ has already appeared once at the “end (consummation) of the ages” to put away sin (Heb. 9:26). (Therefore the “end of the ages” does not refer to a future cessation of ages to come (i.e., a cessation of time itself), nor therefore to an eventual cessation of the Lake of Fire. (Please see further PART 5 § Salvation and the Consummation of the Ages.))
  
  
  
• Christ’s saving appearing occurs before and oppositely to the judgment, without further reference to saving from sin or of judgment due to sin, for those already believing in Him (Heb. 9:27-28), thus bringing closure to the application of salvation for sin. (Hell and the Lake of Fire lie outside the closed defined salvation cycle between Christ’s atonement-appearing and His pre-judgment saving-appearing to the believing. Salvation is not an open-ended universal continuum but a closed cycle between two appearances (the first appearing having been given anticipatory retroactive effect back to the fall of man (Rom. 3:25-26)). The only appearing of Christ outside this cycle is to the unbelieving through the judgment (II Th. 1:7-9), and there is “no hope” (Eph. 2:12; I Th. 4:13; cf. Pr. 10:28; 11:7) of any other appearing of Christ to those in hell or the Lake of Fire thereafter as if they might somehow be saved by some similar “eager expectation” for some other unrecorded extra-cyclical “saving” appearing.)
  
  
  

104.  Salvation is limited to the present tense effect of Christ’s sacrifice on this side of death (Heb. 10:9-22), to wit:

• The sacrifice avails to set apart (sanctify) on earth a people from within the universe of men, doing so “once for all,” availing to complete salvation only in that delimited set apart (sanctified) people (Heb. 10:10,14). (The word “sanctified” is anti-universal. In a universal salvation, all are “set apart” to God with no distinction, wherein the term has no meaning. Further, all the sanctified upon the earth are sanctified before hell. Thus there is nothing sanctifying about hell nor is such admitted in any scripture. The souls in hell and then in the Lake of Fire are there specifically because they are not sanctified to God on earth. No mechanism exists to make them sanctified after death so as to be covered by this earth-side atonement.)
  
  
  
• The setting apart has already been accomplished (not yet to be accomplished) (Heb. 10:10,14). (The judgment of the Lake of Fire is future to all that Hebrews speaks to in the realm of the living regarding Christ’s already past completed once-for-all sacrifice. Therefore the Lake of Fire judgment is excluded as having application to that completed sacrifice and therefore cannot somehow contribute to “salvation” after death.)
  
  
  
• The perfected salvation of the terrestrially sanctified has been completed for all time (Heb. 10:14). (This means it cannot be completed in the future, and that the completion endures for as long as anyone else could possibly be in the Lake of Fire. All completed salvation is already running concurrently in the terrestrially sanctified before Hell and the Lake of Fire are ever entered, and that salvation runs at least as long as the Lake of Fire does (“for all time”). That is, there is no point when or because of any “time served” in hell that someone can thereafter become a “sanctified” partaker of the already past terrestrially completed and continuously running salvation. Further, Universalists say that it is after “time ends” that all those in the Lake of Fire are able to become mysteriously absorbed into the saving eternality of God when the Lake of Fire itself will necessarily come to be snuffed out with the termination of the "ages." Yet the salvation described in Hebrews runs only “for all time.” Thus by their own requirement of time to end so that the Fire must end, Universalists have no basis for positing how the damned can thereafter enter this salvation after it too has ended with the end of “all time”.)
  
  
  
• Since the completed perfecting of the terrestrially sanctified, God has been subduing His enemies (Heb. 10:13). (Subduing of enemies is an anti-reconciliatory product of salvation, indicating that universal salvation is not the purpose or a product of salvation of the sanctified. Please review PART 2 § Decreed Vanquishment Is Enmity.)
  
  
  
• The effect of this past completed terrestrial sanctification is the writing of God’s law upon the heart and mind (Heb. 10:16). (All scripture reference to the writing of God’s law on the heart and mind is with respect to those in the land of the living before death. No scripture exists to testify to a writing of God’s laws on the “hearts” of those in the Lake of Fire (—whatever can be said to pass for a “heart” there).)
  
  
  
• The sins and lawless deeds of the sanctified are no longer memorable (Heb. 10:17). (Thus Hell and the Lake of Fire are necessarily excluded from serving as agents of salvation because their existence and duration is entirely predicated upon rehearsing the memory of the terrestrial sins of the damned.)
  
  
  
• Where anyone has already received forgiveness through this sacrifice, no further offering or sacrifice for sin is available (Heb. 10:18). (This becomes important should one rebel against the forgiveness he has received. Please review Point 101 above.)
  
  
  
• Not only is our conscience cleansed by the blood, but our terrestrial bodies are washed with the pure water of Christ’s body and word (signified by baptism) (Heb. 10:22). (Salvation includes spiritual baptism into the water of Christ’s body and word, as signified by the command to water baptism. Physical baptism is a requirement among the living. Yet baptism is not possible in hell or the Lake of Fire as there is no water in either place. Therefore, no saving washing of Christ’s bodily water signified by baptism is available after the judgment either, where no terrestrial bodies exist.)
  

• The Day of Judgment is the unyielding final benchmark of determinative destiny against which salvation’s limited capacity is urged. Salvation’s urgency is entirely and only preventative of judgment (Heb. 10:25c→27). (Salvation has no definition after judgment. Any concept of reconciliation from out of hell and the Lake of Fire then can only be called a mystic “transmutation,” an operation for which there is no biblical basis. Please review PART 2 § The Universal Bar of Adjudication, Point 29 and PART 3 § Salvation Defined Preventatively of the Universal Bar of Adjudication.)
  
  
  
• Salvation and final fire judgment are presented as stark mutually exclusive opposites (Heb. 10:38-39). (Thus there is nothing saving or redemptive or purging about the fire judgment.)
  
  
  
• The atonement does not follow men into this fire judgment (Heb. 10:26-27). (All salvation is therefore only preventative of final fire judgment, not at all restorative somehow therein. The only way therefore to posit a “salvation” from out of the midst of final fire judgment is to posit an alternative means of salvation beyond the sacrifice of Christ, that is, another gospel.)
  
  
  
• The judgment fire consumes the adversaries (Heb. 10:27) without further description of the adversaries. (This consuming is thus destructive, not restorative. The adversaries remain exactly that, adversaries in the description. Thus the enmity continuum remains unclosed upon such, defeating any concept of total reconciliation.)
  
  
  
• The consuming of the adversaries corresponds to the subduing of Christ’s enemies (Heb. 10:27→13). (This shows that the subduing of the enemies is also destructive, not restorative. This relates back to I Cor. 15:26 and the abolition of death as the last enemy. The abolition of death and of all enemies there cited is not restorative, but vindictively destructive in harmony with Revelation’s portrayal of death’s terminal casting into the Lake of Fire. Please review PART 2 § The Meaning of Death as a Vanquished Enemy.)
  
  
  
• There is no mercy in the punishment of fire judgment (Heb. 10:28-29). (Contrary to all Universalist assertion, the punishment of fire is merciless, thus non-corrective, not merciful “discipline” and is compared to the terminal death sentence under the Law of Moses which permanently severed one from the land of the living without hope of return.)
  
  
  
• Grace terminates if trampled after applied (Heb. 10:29). (Thus grace is not universally without limit. Violation of grace once extended is less merciful than violation of the Law. The Universalist proposition of unlimited universal grace is thus rendered false.)
  
  
  
• Grace and vengeance are presented as stark opposites (Heb. 10:29-30). (Vengeance is thus not an arm of grace nor is the destructive fire associated with that vengeance (10:27,39).)
  
  
  
• To those who violate grace, God is terminally a terror, and not love. Enmity remains permanent (Heb. 10:31).

To grasp the conclusive weight of this single passage as a matter of incontestable apostolic testimony that directly contradicts and denies any conjectural possibility of universal reconciliation,  please see the Epilogue.
