As we get nearer to the actual return of the Lord and the changing of our bodies into incorruptible form, we need to be open to new revelation that prepares us for these changes. Specifically, we should have our ears open for the unveiling of mysteries that will actually usher us through this final transitional period—mysteries that til now have been hidden, but which are vital for spanning the gap between the knowledge we have held under present conditions and the knowledge under which we shall actually function when we are changed.
This means then that we must be prepared to put off the old framework we have held in our thinking concerning the end times and everything involving them. It is not that our framework has been bad. Rather, it is that our framework has served its purpose. That purpose was to point us toward the future in a straight line.
But as the future quickly rushed on to become present tense event, that which pointed to it no longer has purpose. We must have new immediate revelation for relating us to the New Present Tense. Of course, as the new present tense displaces what has been our anticipation of its coming, we must be prepared to chuck faulty and incomplete understandings we have entertained amid the framework.
Driving Cross Country
To use an analogy, when driving to a distant city you’ve never seen before, you use a map. However, once you reach the city environs, you begin to displace the map with actual landmarks guiding you to the exact location—a building here, a street sign there, etc. The map has served its purpose and cannot take you to the exact spot. So you put it away.
Moreover, you find on reaching the city that many of your ideas about it based only on the map were wrong. You imagined a flat city. But arriving there you found that Main Street climbed a big hill! The map couldn’t show you that.
So it is with our approach to the end of the “end times.” We are entering the environs of what was once a distant city. Our eschatological understandings led us here safely, but are now of decreasing value. Now we need the landmarks of new revelation to get us to the exact spot of the Lord’s arrival and our transition to new bodies.
We need a whole new realm of thinking itself that transits us between old dispensation thought processes and glorified thinking. And of course, we must drop by the wayside many of our imagined thoughts of anticipation under the old dispensation. Our “maps” of understanding have not been able to detail the actual topography of the end.
Adapting to the New Prophetic Movement
But now we are here. We’re “in the city.” We should start expecting revelation in new areas for which hitherto we were totally unprepared to give thought. Especially as disciples, we who have had certain negative mindsets toward the earth and our relationship to it must be prepared to receive the dawning of incorruptible inheriting of promises which we have relegated to the future.
Is our mindset so hard that when the future becomes Present we miss it because we are so used to putting of hope toward the future? Are we so used to “futurizing” our hope that we will still be futurizing when it comes? This is what I mean.
As the future becomes present tense, nothing is going to be just the way anybody expected it under the anticipatory mindset. Nothing. Not the rapture, not the tribulation, not who will suffer or how much, not who will prosper or how it will be possible, not how all the myriad of personal prophecies will be filled in peoples lives, not how the Lord will appear, or who will see Him, or who will have the ability to appear or disappear.
Because of this, we need a new openness of heart to receive the revelation of mysteries once held back, but which shall become the guides for leading us safely into the millennial age at hand.
This present tense revelation is what the dawning of the new prophetic movement is all about. The prophetic movement does not belong to anyone man or group of people of a given mindset. It belongs to all saints who are desirous of “city revelation” in reaching their destination in God.
The prophetic movement is not governed by a particular theology nor can be. Such theology is “map stage” understanding. But we are passing out of that state. Unfortunately, some are so glued to their maps with their own topographical imaginations that they are unable to put the map away and start entering the prophetic flow of city revelation.
We disciple-focused saints are as susceptible to this as anyone, and I pray it might not be so with any of you, and if it is so, you might recover quickly out of it. Don’t allow your map training in the Lord to hinder you from receiving the fulfilment of promises you once relegated to the future or from receiving new topographical revelation as to the way things are to be as final events unfold.
Like all God’s movements the prophetic movement is taking initial focus through certain prominent personalities. And like all personalities, these leaders are limited, frail and incomplete in themselves. Don’t allow your perceptions of personality incompletenesses in anyone to dissuade you from entering into God’s flow which is far bigger than any leader through whom it is initially focused.
No matter how far we are or aren’t in Christ, the times affect us as one Body. This means the prophetic flow is for everyone. The times don’t adjust to suit those who are ready for them. They come upon all of us without distinction. So it is we must receive what God is now pouring out toward us all through this new prophetic flow. We must not allow our map mindset to dissuade us otherwise.
